India can reach the semifinals in the upcoming World Cup, says Harmanpreet
Indian women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur said the Indian team has been performing well in the recent past and hoped that the good performances will guide the team to the semifinals of the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is scheduled in Bangladesh from October 3 to 20 this year and India have been drawn alongside six-time champion Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
South Africa, England, West Indies, Bangladesh and Scotland will play it out in another group with the top two teams advancing to the semifinals. The final will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on October 20.
Speaking to ICC at the fixture launch event, the Indian captain said India would be one of the four semi finalists at the show-piece event. “India, Australia, England and South Africa. Because all these teams have been doing well and hopefully these four can qualify for the semis so we can have very good cricket over there,” she said.
Harmanpreet said playing against Australia will be very competitive and winning against them will give the team a lot of confidence. “I think it will be Australia (who I look forward to facing) because they are very competitive. If we do well against them, it will give us a lot of confidence and I’m really looking forward to playing against them,” she added.
